Transforming our data centre helps save space, energy, and the environment
Hursley hosts one of the six strategic global data centres in IBM Hybrid Cloud, after a consolidation of 42 previous data centres.
This saved space equivalent to the size of six soccer pitches, reduced the number of servers from 70,000 to 20,000, slashed energy consumption by two thirds, and avoided 61,000 metric tons of annual carbon dioxide emissions.
No wonder IBM's CEO gave her top Environmental Award this year to the Hybrid Cloud organisation, and Fortune magazine named IBM in its 2019 Top Ten "Sustainability All Stars" list.
Hursley has led the way on this transformation in IBM. For more than a decade, we've been a prime centralised European location for IBM acquisitions, IP partnerships, and site consolidations. The HCDC drives the latest generation Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, and is a showcase for internal and external customers.
Talk to our team. They'll tell you it's not easy being green, but it's worth the effort. You can see a virtual tour of our facility, or arrange to see it in person on the day of the Festival - including the latest generation IBM mainframe.
