How we provide a JumpStart for IBM's early professionals
Every year we hire hundreds of new developers into our UK Labs. As well as experienced hires, we take on apprentices, industrial placements, summer interns, and graduate trainees. Some have software development degrees, others may not.
To give our early professionals the best of beginnings in their careers, we introduced the JumpStart Developer Camp. It builds a strong cohort that connects across our UK development labs, enables active engagement in the developer community, and sets up helpful consultative mentorship.
And just as importantly, it ensures they have fun as new developers!
JumpStart Developer Camp provides them with training in cloud-native development practices, and immediate experience on real delivery projects applying those practices. The skills they gain and the people they meet will ensure through their IBM career.
Chris Sharp is a Senior Technical Staff Member, IBM Master Inventor, and Member of the IBM Academy. He established the JumpStart Developer Camp programme in Europe, and is one of our IBM leaders for the government's multi-million pound Institute of Coding initiative. He's our very own C Sharp (yes, really).
